Overview

Jim has more than thirty years of experience serving populations in Maryland and West Virginia, primarily adults for mental health and addiction recovery services. He completed his Doctorate in Counseling Psychology at Argosy University in 2014, after completing his MS in Counseling Psychology from Frostburg State University in 1991.

Jim worked as a drug and alcohol counselor at Roxbury Drug, East Ridge Health Systems, and the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg. In 2004, he started Pathways Counseling Services for clients age 7 and above. His therapeutic approach is eclectic and individualized to the client’s needs. Jim works from a cognitive behavioral model, but may also use psyschoanalytic insight oriented therapy, Gestalt therapy, Reality therapy, hypnosis, psychodrama, and Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

He also provided sexual offender counseling and addiction counseling to parolees for the state of West Virginia. Jim has worked with a wide variety of people, ages, and life experiences over the years. He hopes to continue to grow and develop the necessary requisites of understanding, professional knowledge, and empathic sensitivity. By consistent and assiduous effort, he seeks first to provide hope, validate, and begin a process healing one's emotional wounds, so they can effectively take charge of their lives.

Jim enjoys skiing at the Wisp during the winter and biking or running along the C & O Canal and Potomac River during the summer.
